Intense Pulse Light

How does IPL treat pigmentation?

Treatment of pigmentation with IPL involves the melanin in the pigmented lesion absorbing a specific wavelength of light.

The heat is the catalyst to the pigment breaking up into small particles which are then removed by the body’s natural exfoliation process.

This is a no downtime treatment and you can immediately return to your activities. Mineral makeup can be applied following treatment.

What will my IPL experience be like?

Cool gel is applied to the skin and the treatment area receives a warm, elastic band flick type sensation. There is a warm, comfortable sensation post treatment. A slight darkening of pigment may be seen which is easily covered with mineral makeup. The darkened pigmentation will shed usually within 5-7 days and the skin will appear more even in colour.

How many treatments are required?

Usually only 2-4 treatments are required at 2-4 week intervals. Any area affected can be treated; most commonly the face, neck, décolletage, hands, arms and back.
